This is just brilliant. It was done not long ago for an advert for T-Mobile. Some of them appear to be professionals, but the public seemed to join in too. Eat your heart out Wade Robson.

KIG – Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes

IMO: Judging from the title, you can guess how the chorus will go. It’s a bashment/dance funky house refix of the popular nursery rhyme. A little known secret is that there is a dance that goes with this, and it involves touching your head, then your shoulders, then your knees, and then your toes – ingenius. The possibilities for variations are endless. I don’t know much about the crew that did this remix, but hats off to them, they pulled it off nicely. DJ’s can spin this comfortably with self-respect. Either way, it’s far more superior than ’shoulder leans’ and ’supermen’. See below for the link.

Crazy Cousinz feat. Kyla – Do You Mind Remix feat. Bashy & Wiley (2008)

The hot house band of the moment alongside the singer Kyla, release a remix featuring the Eskiboy and North West’s flagship spitter.

IMO: Crazy Cousinz consist of producers Paleface and Flukes, who are also both cousins. Flukes has already put the work in on the grime scene and Paleface on the ‘bassline/niche’ scene, so the names should be familiar. The original song isn’t much different, and is one of those songs that you don’t mind hearing, and then it grows on you before you know it, and then you stop listening to it cos it’s aaalright, but you still end up loving it nevertheless. IMO: Heard some of it. Another mixed CD that’s tracked separately – hooray! And there’s a tracklisting – hooray! And there’s album art too – hooray! And the songs aren’t half bad – hooray! About time the bar was raised on the dance mixtape scene. Stumbled onto this while doing the MySpace wander. The fact that this is Vol. 7, and the DJ has already notified us of a forthcoming Vol. 8, means that he means business. Hey, he’s made the effort, the least one can do is shack out to it. Bart B More – So It Goes (2008)

IMO: “If you want to know what’s going to blow up before it does, it’s this song”, were the wise words from a friend regarding this gem of a dance tune. The more it plays, the more it grows on you. But that’s because the bassline is hypnotising and brainwashing you into loving the song. This is a first for me from Bart B More, let’s hope the good impressions last. He has also done a remix for Wiley’s ‘Summertime’, but that one is fresh ‘air’ because it’s just too hardcore maaan. See below for the link.

IMO: Having noticed Ill Mana from the song, ‘Shut Ya Mout’, I found this. The songs are both chosen and mixed well. These days you will often find most mixed sets in one large .mp3 file. No thanks. This mix is tracked/separated/split, something which many dance DJ’s are becoming lazy to do. What genre is it though? In the words of Wiley, “Tell us what you call it then”. No matter how many names are invented, the umbrella name will always be house and garage. And that’s the old school talking. Anyways, “Passion Fruit” is a personal favourite, alongside wicked remixes of classics such as “Get Down” and “My Boo”. See below for the link.
