50 Cent – The Undertaker (2009)

Posted by thegreenbutler on February 26, 2009

DJ Hevehitta, DJ Unexpected & MKW team up with none other than 50 to produce a ‘Motion Picture’ mixtape, a novel way of saying they’ve arranged his songs in a unique order.

IMO: The PSA on this post is that I have shared this album in an attempt to maintain the discipline of the format I have attributed to myself for this blog. Basically (to be said in a Dudley accent), although I haven’t heard this mixtape yet, I’m in no rush to listen to it either. As for many of you also, alot of the tracks on here have been heard before, if not all of them. The concept for this mixtape was to demonstrate a musical autobiography of Fif’s life to date. Well, at least the album art is nice. And credit is due for the concept. See below for the links.

DJ Furious – Best Of Classic Rapid Productions (2009)

Posted by thegreenbutler on January 27, 2009

DJ Furious compiles this mix of both instrumentals and vocals, showcasing the work that Rapid Fire Recordings has put in on the grime scene.

IMO: A little visit was paid yesterday to Furious’ website, to investigate this new addition to the DJ industry. You can’t just trust anyone you know, now that the quality of the art-form is clearly compromised with digital technology. Refreshingly, I was able to listen through his Westwood set more than comfortably. Okay, so I was familiar with the songs in the set, but they blended well. Besides, he’s put everyone’s favourite price tag on this one. See below for the link.

SK Vibemakers – The Best Of 2008 (2009)

Posted by thegreenbutler on January 20, 2009

The London boys define consistency with their round up of what was hot last year in the urban music scene.

IMO: If anyone has been constantly putting out mixtapes of a high quality on the UK urban music scene, it’s these guys. They have released a respectable number of mixtapes with many major UK artists before they even made their name. Although I already have all of these songs (show-off), it’s a good compilation nevertheless, and you’re actually ALLOWED to download them. Plus, you get the skits too. See below for the links.

Logan Sama – The Best There Is At What I Do Series (2008)

Posted by thegreenbutler on November 11, 2008

IMO: So Logan basically has begun this series of mp3 sets demonstrating his access to dubplates. A DJ who is at the forefront of mainstream grime cannot be criticised for releasing free official sets to the masses. No doubt a large chunk of grime listeners tend to ‘keep it real’ and ‘hustle’ their music from rapidshare and the likes of. At least this way, Logan has given those very people the opportunity to do it with a clear conscience. As long as the series is better than that Oneaway Style album, this should be alright. There are 4 episodes so far. See below for the link.

Ace Hood – All Bets On Ace (2008)

Posted by thegreenbutler on November 11, 2008

The new name recently making waves in the hip-hop indsutry gives us a rap freebie that showcases his style for those who haven’t heard him yet.

IMO: Will Ace ever be able to shrug off the comparisons to Lil Wayne because of his barnet? It doesn’t matter, because this post is based solely on his performance on the BET Cypher. Ace Hood spat fire flows on that clip (which is in the blog somewhere), and this is an official offering from him before his upcoming album release ‘Gutta’, which should be out in the next week. He is also on DJ Khaled’s roster, who hosts this mixtape, so no doubt you’ll hear Khaled soundbites, and Khaled sentences without verbs. See below for the link.

Tracklisting:

01. All Bets On Ace
02. Gutta (Feat. Trick Daddy)
03. Who Hotter Than Me Freestyle
04. I Don’t See Y’all (Feat. Brisco)
05. Get Em
06. Face Good (Feat. Flo Rida)
07. Ace Hood “Gutta” In Stores Oct. 14
08. Put On
09. Final Warning (Feat. DJ Khaled, Bun B, Blood Raw, Brisco, Bali, Lil Scrappy, Shawty Lo & Rock City)
10. Gutta Bitch (Remix)
11. Blood Money (Feat. Brisco, Rick Ross & Birdman)
12. Ride (Feat. Trey Songz)
13. From A Small City
14. Khaled Speaks…

The Elementz – BBC Asian Network Mix (2008)

Posted by thegreenbutler on October 17, 2008

FREE DOWNLOAD!

Nottingham Trip/Hip-Hop/Grime crew The Elementz drop a nice mix on Bobby Friction’s BBC Asian Network Show.

IMO: Can someone please explain how some Nottingham DJ’s got Lil Wayne to spit some fresh exclusive lyrics for them? Well, that’s exactly what you’ll hear on this mix. There are some serious beats on this one, there’s even some grime. Guess what, I also found the tracklisting. Bummer note – the mix starts at 02:40, it’s a mini-interview before. See below for the link.

Wretch 32 – Wretchibition (2008)

Posted by thegreenbutler on October 14, 2008

FREE DOWNLOAD!

Prior to his latest album release, ‘Wretchrospective’, Wretch 32 released this promotional mixtape in conjunction with the SK Vibemakers, showcasing his best verses since 2006.

IMO: Ain’t heard it properly yet. But anything by the SK Vibemakers has my seal of approval. The mixtape contains the whole questions and answers format, but it’s done well. Wretch 32 may not be as household a name as the likes of Wiley, yet, but his range of vocabulary speaks for itself. Although his style took a while (see how natural the rhyming is) to grow on me, I can now only appreciate the flow that lets you understand what he’s on about. See below for the link.

Ill Mana Presents… Sourface Bass Vol. 1 (2008)

Posted by thegreenbutler on October 13, 2008

FREE DOWNLOAD!

Mixed CD by Ill Mana, featuring bassline, niche, house and garage.

IMO: Having noticed Ill Mana from the song, ‘Shut Ya Mout’, I found this. The songs are both chosen and mixed well. These days you will often find most mixed sets in one large .mp3 file. No thanks. This mix is tracked/separated/split, something which many dance DJ’s are becoming lazy to do. What genre is it though? In the words of Wiley, “Tell us what you call it then”. No matter how many names are invented, the umbrella name will always be house and garage. And that’s the old school talking. Anyways, “Passion Fruit” is a personal favourite, alongside wicked remixes of classics such as “Get Down” and “My Boo”. See below for the link.
